Your information, handled properly.

This explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it, where it goes, and what you can do about it. It's written to be read, not to impress a lawyer.

Who is responsible for your information

The responsible party under the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) is:

Information Officer

POPIA requires every business to have an Information Officer. Ours is Marope Moshapo, contactable at hello@moshapodigitalstudio.co.za. They handle any question, request or complaint about how your information is used.

What we collect

We only collect personal information that you give us yourself. Nothing is gathered quietly in the background.

Through the contact form

  • Your name
  • Your email address
  • The content of the message you send us

Through the Start a Project form

  • Your name and business name
  • Your email address and WhatsApp number
  • Your project details — which service you need, budget range, timeline, and anything else you type into the form

Automatically

We use Vercel Analytics to count page views. It records the page visited, the country, the browser type and the referring site. It does not use cookies, does not assign you an identifier, and cannot be used to work out who you are or follow you to other websites.

Why we collect it, and on what basis

POPIA section 11 sets out the lawful grounds for processing personal information. Two of them apply to us:

  • Your consent. When you fill in a form and submit it, you are asking us to get in touch. We use your details to reply to that enquiry and to discuss the work.
  • Performance of a contract. Once you become a client, we need your details to actually deliver the project, invoice you, and support you after handover.

We do not use your information for anything else. We do not sell it, rent it, or hand it to anyone for their own marketing.

Who we share it with

We use a small number of service providers (POPIA calls them operators) to run the site. They only process your information on our instructions, for the purposes described here:

  • Vercel Inc. — hosts the website and provides the analytics described above.
  • Formspree Inc. — delivers messages sent through the contact form to our inbox.
  • Supabase Inc. — stores Start a Project enquiries in a database that only we can read.
  • Zoho Corporation — hosts our business email, so any message you send us lives in that mailbox.

We may also share information where the law requires it — for example, in response to a lawful request from a court or a regulator.

Information sent outside South Africa

This matters, so we're stating it plainly: all four providers listed above are based outside South Africa and store data on servers outside the country. That means your personal information leaves South Africa when you contact us.

POPIA section 72 allows this where the receiving party is subject to a law, binding agreement or corporate rules that give substantially similar protection to POPIA. Each of these providers offers a data processing agreement with contractual safeguards built on the European Union's General Data Protection Regulation, which POPIA recognises as comparable protection. By submitting a form on this site you also consent to that transfer.

If you would rather your details never left the country, email or WhatsApp us directly instead of using the forms — though note our business email is also hosted outside South Africa.

How long we keep it

We keep enquiries for as long as there is a reason to: while we are in conversation with you, for the duration of any project, and for a reasonable period afterwards in case you come back to us or we need the records for tax or accounting purposes.

Enquiries that never turn into work are deleted once they are clearly stale. If you ask us to delete your information sooner, we will, unless a law requires us to keep it.

Your rights

Under POPIA you have the right to:

  • Ask what personal information we hold about you, and get a copy of it.
  • Ask us to correct anything that is wrong or out of date.
  • Ask us to delete your information.
  • Object to us using your information in a particular way.
  • Withdraw your consent at any time — although that may mean we can no longer help with your enquiry.
  • Complain to the Information Regulator.

To use any of these, email hello@moshapodigitalstudio.co.za. We will respond within a reasonable time and will not charge you for a straightforward request. Formal requests for access to records follow the process in our PAIA Manual.

How we keep it secure

The site runs entirely over HTTPS, so anything you submit is encrypted in transit. Start a Project enquiries go into a database with row-level security switched on and no public read access — only our server can write to it, and only we can read it. Access to our email and to the providers listed above is protected by strong, unique passwords.

No system is perfectly secure. If a breach ever happens that puts your information at risk, POPIA requires us to notify both you and the Information Regulator, and we will.

Cookies

This site sets no tracking cookies and no advertising cookies. We do not use Google Analytics, advertising pixels, or any similar tool.

Our analytics is cookieless by design, which is why you will not see a cookie consent banner on this site — there is nothing non-essential to consent to. If that ever changes, we will add a proper banner with a real reject option before switching anything on.

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings at any time, and the site will keep working normally.

Complaints

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, tell us first — email hello@moshapodigitalstudio.co.za and we will try to sort it out directly.
